about

Matt Siffert is a multidisciplinary musician from New York City. His creative practice spans music creation, education, and administration.

Over a 15-year career, he has worked with artists across genres and generations, including Emmanuel Ax, Jon Batiste, Lauren Daigle, Aaron Diehl, Norah Jones, Amos Lee, Chris Potter, Kate Soper, Michael Tilson Thomas, and Adia Victoria.

Siffert’s music explores the intersections between folk-influenced songwriting and contemporary musical adventurousness. He has released seven albums as a singer-songwriter, performed nationally and internationally (from the Metropolitan Opera to South by Southwest, Croatia to Cuba), and been featured in publications such as The New Yorker, NPR, and The Deli, where he was given Nashville’s Emerging Artist award. He has recently expanded his practice to explore how music intersects with literary and visual arts, including exhibiting multimedia art and publishing music articles.

Since the beginning of the Covid-19 pandemic, Siffert has worked with the nonprofit organization Musical Mentors Collaborative to bring music instruction to under-resourced communities around the United States, including youth in foster care, new immigrants, and people with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Through his work with MMC, he has collaborated with brands such as Fender, Gibson, Kala, and Steinway, as well as granting organizations such as the National Endowment for the Arts and Brandi Carlile’s Looking Out Foundation.

Siffert has also collaborated with record labels such as Blue Note, Capitol Records, and Smithsonian Folkways to help deepen and expand the reach of labels and artists to audiences worldwide.

Siffert lives in Boulder with his wife and their two children.
